HEPA, or High Efficiency Particulate Air, filters are able to remove up to 99.97% of airborne particles that are 0.3 micrometers in diameter. This is the most difficult size of particle to filter and often penetrates most other types of air filtration systems. Particles larger than 0.3 microns are also efficiently removed with a HEPA filter. The first HEPA filter was designed and used as part of the Manhattan Project during the 1940s. It was utilized to prevent radioactive particles from becoming airborne. HEPA filters were trademarked and became a commercial product in the 1950s.
While there are many variations of HEPA filters, only True HEPA filters are able to remove 99.97% of particles, 0.3 microns in diameter. True HEPA filters must pass a test and will be marked with a serial number to display the True HEPA quality standard. Aerus uses only True HEPA filtration in its air purification to eliminate 99.97% of harmful contaminants from your home - keeping your family happy and healthy.
